Hollywood star Angelina Jolie wants to draw the world’s attention to what is happening in Iran right now.
The Middle Eastern country is now obsessed with protests from women after the death of a 22-year-old named Mercer Amini, People magazine reports. Amini died in Iran on Sept. 16 after she was detained by the country’s morality police for wearing her hijab loose.
“People” further said demonstrations erupted after Mercer Amini’s death, with women protesting by burning hijabs and cutting their hair in the ongoing unrest. Angelina Jolie captioned the post, “Honoring the brave, rebellious and fearless women of Iran. People, and Mercer Amini and all young Iranians like her.
“Women don’t need to be morally policed, they don’t need to reeducate their minds, they don’t need to control their bodies. Angelina Jolie continued. “All Iranian women, meet #WomanLifeFreedom #MahsaAmini.”
In the post, Angelina Jolie also included a statement outlining the ongoing conflict in Iran. “They started after the death of 22,” she said. Masa Amini In custody of the Moral Police (sic)”
“Since the protests began, riot police have attacked protesters with brutal force, reportedly killing more than 70 people,” it added.
