Twitter Breaks Copyright Infringement Warning System, Users Are Uploading Full Videos

The website, Twitter, remained online, and while it didn’t simply collapse after the majority of workers were fired or resigned under Elon Musk, it’s already starting to show cracks growing in its walls. I’m here.

Last night, it was revealed that Twitter’s automated copyright notice/takedown system had stopped working. One user went viral for uploading the entirety of The Fast and the Furious Tokyo Drift in two-minute chunks to his thread of 50 tweets. I’m offline this morning, but here’s where even more weird things happen.

  • The media itself was never deleted. Normally, when the deletion occurred, the message “This media cannot be displayed” was displayed. Tweets and accounts will be up, but the media will be stripped. It looks like someone at Twitter had to do it manually in this case. Suspend your entire account.
  • And as further bug proof, currently on mobile I can still see tweets from suspended accounts. The tweets I favorited last night to write this article this morning are still actively showing up, though I can’t see them on my desktop.

Again, basically a copyright system seems brokenYes this particular account was suspended but I believe it was because it went viral and was discovered by someone who works there. , and is still online as of this writing.

It should be clear to everyone what liability Twitter will face if its copyright system fails, and its newly restricted pool of employees will have to manually hunt down infringers. have to hunt down. If media companies find out about this, Twitter could face all sorts of DMCA claims and potential legal problems with him. I imagine Disney content will start being uploaded here and they will become core.

Also, one of Elon Musk’s big ideas for Twitter Blue is to allow users to upload videos longer than 40 minutes. If they can’t fix their copyright enforcement system, it will be a nightmare, but it’s not clear if anyone is working on this issue in any meaningful capacity, other than suspending certain Tokyo Drift accounts. .

There’s one drama a day on Twitter these days, and it shows no signs of slowing down.
