Tracy Ellis Ross refuses to call former US First Lady Michelle Obama by name.
While appearing on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday night, the Black-ish star recalled how she wrote to her friend about shooting a cameo on a hit show.
But while Tracy considers Michelle a good friend, she admitted that she still calls her Mrs. Obama.
“I grew up in a generation where your teachers and the parents of your friends are Mr. and Mrs. So in public she is Mrs. Obama, the former first lady. No doubt. I also called her a friend, ”she smiled. “She said,‘ Seriously, this has to stop. And I said, “Okay, Mrs. Obama.” I bowed. We had a conversation for United States women, and in front of an audience she said, “Seriously, you should call me Michelle.”
Elsewhere in the chat, Tracy revealed that she was a “mess” before filming episodes of the eighth and final season of Black-ish alongside Anthony Anderson.
“You spend so much time with everyone. It’s your family. I’ve been pretending to be married to Anthony more than not. You’re with them from five in the morning until late at night,” the 49-year-old shared. “I think there were two things that helped me remember how time went: the kids who grew up and the hair on Anthony’s face. By the end he was like ZZ Top!”
The eighth season of Black-ish premiered on ABC last month.
