Jimmy Kimmel’s Halloween candy prank is officially back in tears

Jimmy Kimmel‘s controversial Halloween trick is back.

After a two-year hiatus, Jimmy Kimmel Live! officially revived and upheld its annual YouTube Prank Challenge, “Hey Jimmy Kimmel, I told the kids I ate all their Halloween candy!” The November 2 talk show featured a compilation of fan-submitted home videos. Parents say they fed their young children snacks and shed many tears.

“There are people who are unhappy that we are doing this, but we put it on the ballot. This was the will of the people. Elections have consequences,” Kimmel said on the show. “By the way, just for the record, kids cry about anything. My son had a psychotic meltdown this morning because he didn’t like umbrellas.”

He also reflected on the challenge itself. Released in 2011“The first time I did this was 10 years ago,” he said. “We’ve been doing it for a long time. Some of the kids we cheated on grew up to have kids of their own who stole candy.”
