Today, IFC released the first teaser and final details for the highly anticipated 53rd season of Documentary Now!. The two-part season premiere of Soldier of Illusion, written by John Mulaney, and Trouver Frisson, which pays homage to the films of Agnes Ward, joins the previously announced episodes of Two Barbers in Bagleyport, How They Thrown Stones. ” and “ My Monkey Grifter ” to close out the season. Known for lovingly paying homage to the world of documentary film, Documentary Now! Season 53 debuts with a two-episode premiere on Wednesday, October 19 at 10:00 PM on IFC and the same day on AMC+. New episodes will be released every week on Wednesdays.

The upcoming season of the critically acclaimed comedy, co-created by Fred Armisen, Bill Hader, Seth Meyers and Rhys Thomas, executive produced by Lorne Michaels and produced by Broadway Video, will include six all-new documentary-inspired episodes. Below are the descriptions for “Soldier of Illusion” and “Trouver Frisson”:

· The two-part season premiere of Soldier of Illusion, written by John Mulaney, starring Alexander Skarsgård (Midnight, Big Little Lies), Nicholas Brown (Continuity, Zola) and August Diehl (Inglourious Basterds) ), was the inspiration for the Werner Hertz documentary The Burden of Dreams. In the early 1980s, a German filmmaker (Skarsgård) tries to realize his greatest work, working in the remote, harsh conditions of the Russian Ular Mountains. Kevin Bishop (The Miracle Workers, The Tracey Ullman Show), Gana Bayarsayhan (Wonder Woman), Mathias Rimpler (Ludzie i Bogowie) and Fred Armisen will also star in Documentary Now! ensemble alumna Deb Heath returns as narrator.

· “Trouver Frisson” stars French actor Liliane Raver (“Call My Agent!”, “Family Business”) and Ronald Gutman (“The Godfather of Harlem,” Sister of the Groom). Inspired by Agnes Varda’s The Pickers and Me and Agnes Beaches, acclaimed French director Ida Leos (Rover) searches for why she no longer feels the “cracks” – the goosebumps that have always guided her. Written by producers Matt Pakult and Tamsin Ravadi and co-directed by Micah Gardner, the episode also featured Documentary Now! alumni Gary Krauss.

These new titles join three previously announced episodes, all written by Seth Meyers, to round out Season 53:

· Two Barbers in Bagleyport to star in two-time Academy Award winner and documentary! alumni Cate Blanchett (“Blue Jasmine,” “Carol”), and Emmy-nominated (R) actress Harriet Walter (“Succession,” “Killing Eve”). Paying homage to the documentaries Three Salons by the Sea and The September Issue, the episode is a portrait of a hair salon owner (Walter) and her staff (Blanchette) in the small coastal village of Bagleyport as they prepare their annual style collection. Fred Armisen will also play George the Postman.

· As They Thrown Stones will feature Welsh actors Tristan Gravelle (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, The Witches’ Discovery), Jonathan Pryce (The Two Popes, The Crown) and John Rhys-Davies (The Lord rings”). Rings, Indiana Jones), as well as the legendary Welsh singer Tom Jones. In the vein of When We Were Kings and other great sports studies, the episode follows the Welsh sport of Craig Mace, also known as Field Rock, and the iconic 1974 match called Melon vs Criminal (Gravel). » Fellow Welsh actor Sam C. Fred Armisen also joins as Detective Blakely.

The six-time Emmy(R) nominated documentary is out now! debuted to rave reviews from critics and quickly became a fan favorite for its insightful look at some of the most famous documentaries. Each episode takes viewers back in time to celebrate groundbreaking documentaries. Season 52 guest stars include Cate Blanchett, Owen Wilson, Michael Keaton, Natasha Lyonne, John Mulaney, Michael C. Hall, Taran Killam, Richard Kind and more.
