‘Ponyin Servan: I’ refuses to slow down at the box office! Emerging as one of the biggest hits of the year, it is vying for a global collection of Rs 40 crore.

The original Tamil film achieved this feat in just 12 days at the box office, making it the second highest grossing film in the Tamil industry after Rajinikanth’s film ‘2.0’. This huge collection ‘Ponniyin Selvan: I’ was his 2nd highest post-pandemic Tamil glosser list, with ‘Vikram’ in first place. However, the Tamil dubbed version of the film has found very little audience. ‘Ponniyin Selvan: I’ Hindi underperforms with net profit of his Rs 21.75 crore. The dubbed film is expected to finish theatrical run at Rs 22-23 crore nett, Boxofficeindia reports. At the international box office, Gulf is expected to rake in around $3.5 million, while ‘Ponniyin Selvan: I’ is aiming for his $6 million in the US/Canada. The film’s total overseas collection is expected to be around $17 million.

Directed by Mani Ratnam, ‘Ponniyin Selvan: I’ is based on the book of the same name. The film features an ensemble of his cast including Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Vikram, Jayamuravi, Kathi, Trisha Sarasukumar, Vikram Prabhu, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sovita Dhulipala. Speaking of the impact of lockdown on cinema, Mani Ratnam “The pandemic has disrupted a lot of things. Lockdowns were also not eased throughout, with multiple filming locations, and we had to shoot in just the right number to make sure we had no issues with frames and didn’t exceed the limits set. We had to be very careful during filming.In the movie, you don’t feel like it was shot during a pandemic.We shot it without compromise.”
