Fun fact: Gautam has yet to work with Simbu and Vijay Setupati in a film. The interviewer seems to be under the impression that GVM he directed Chekka Chivantha Vaanam. However, 2018’s Gang He drama was written and directed by Mani Ratnam. Instead of correcting the interviewer, Gautam accepts the question and he reveals himself to be Mani Ratnam.
“It was very difficult to work with Simbu, Vijay Setupati, Arun Vijay and Arvind Swamy. You know get their dates, they are all very busy actors. By his own admission, Gautham is a big fan of Mani Ratnam. He said it was the latter film that inspired him to pursue a career as a filmmaker. So when he was mistakenly credited to his favorite director’s work, Gautam owned it with a big smile on his face.
Gautam Menon’s newest director Vendu Thanindatu Kaadhu has Simbu in the lead role. The film was released last week to rave reviews and has been well received in cinemas.
