Daughter of Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff and stepdaughter of Vice President Kamala Harris, Ella Emhoff is adjusting to her new status as an icon.

At the 2022 Harper’s Bazaar Icons & Bloomingdale’s 150th Anniversary Gala on Friday, the 21-year-old chatted exclusively with PEOPLE. Ella has been designated an icon by her publications, appointing her as a young man whose thoughts and artistic creations are influencing the world.

Emhoff told PEOPLE that she’s honored and takes this difference seriously. This is a great honor and comforting to hear as someone who doesn’t think of myself that way. Emhoff insisted that she wasn’t totally submerged in being a style icon, despite this.
