BTS is one of the most successful acts of all time when looking at BillboardThe eponymous Billboard Global 200 chart, which is the 200 most consumed tunes in the world. The list takes into account broadcast and sales data, and every time the band has something new to share with its large and dedicated fan base, it almost always comes first or at least climbs to the top. Now one of the members of the septet has won his first victory on his own, and in doing so he has captured a bit of history from his co-worker, friend and teammate.
Chong Cook’s single “Stay Alive” is in the latest edition of Billboard Global 200 at number 13, almost occupying a very rare place among the South Korean musician. Although it may not have reached the highest level in the count, the BTS superstar is still making history with his debut appearance in the competition rankings.
“Stay Alive” is now the highest single ever performed by solo k-pop musicians (an artist known for creating music that can usually be classified as k-pop) in the Billboard Global 200. Cook is also the first artist to fit this particular description to make his way to the top 20 on his own.
Before the new hit of Chong Cook, the title of the highest hit in the hits of the solo male k-pop singer belonged to the song “Girl of My Dreams” by Juice WRLD and Suga. The melody served as a promotional single from the latest posthumous album of the late hip-hop artist Fighting demonsand it debuted and peaked at 37 in the last week of the 2021 charts.
Interestingly, his fellow BTS performer Shuga contributed to the success of “Stay Alive,” although this is not taken into account in his overall career place in the Billboard Global 200 as an artist. Shuga is considered the producer and co-author of the track, but is not officially named its performer.
