‘Black Panther’ director Ryan Coogler almost quits making movies after death of Chadwick Boseman

2018’s Black Panther defied all expectations and became one of the biggest movies of all time, not just in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Along with top-notch performances by B. Jordan, Letitia Wright, and all the cast and crew involved, he was praised for his stellar work on the film.
As soon as the film hit cinemas, its sequel was greenlit almost immediately, with Ryan Coogler back in the director’s chair and most of the cast reprising their roles.
However, in 2020, tragedy struck when Chadwick Boseman, who played the main character, lost his life after a long battle with colon cancer.
Fans were distraught and the film’s creators didn’t know where to go from that point.
But it wasn’t just the audience that was distraught. Director Ryan Coogler recently revealed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that the death of Chadwick Boseman left him so distraught that he considered giving up filmmaking altogether.
He explained in the following words.
“At some point I was like, ‘I’m getting out of this business.’ I wasn’t sure if I could make another movie period. [let alone] Another Black Panther movie, because it hurt so much. […] I was perusing the many conversations we had towards what I realized was the end of his life. ”
Luckily, Coogler decided to go on, mentioning several times that with Black Panther 2, he aims to not only honor Chadwick’s legacy, but create a film that Chadwick would be proud of. doing.
