Bad news about ‘House of the Dragon’ season 2 release date

With war coming to Westeros in the House of the Dragons finale, fans are wondering when season 2’s release date will come. It’s a long way off. House of the Dragon premiered his August 2022, but we know season 2 won’t arrive nearly a year after him.

The confirmation came from HBO’s Chief Content Officer Casey Bloys, who said House of the Dragon’s release date could be “24 years.”talk Vulture, he said: No need to be shy or secret, but I don’t want to say I’m ready on this day, so I need to move on. ”

And “don’t expect it in 2023.”

Given that the pieces are at least somewhat similar in size and scope, we can at least try to make a rough estimate based on the length of time between Seasons of Game of Thrones.

For a very long time, HBO had its Game of Thrones seasons down to a pretty rigid schedule. The show arrives in April and runs through June. From 2011 to 2016, the waiting period between seasons was just nine months, but things have changed since then. Season 7 debuted 13 months after him in Season 6, and Season 8 debuted about 20 months after Season 7 premiered.

At a minimum, given that we’re approaching the late stages of Game of Thrones, we’ll have about 14 months between when House of the Dragon season 1 airs and arriving in January 2024. One year. So in 18 months we are approaching April 2024, returning to the traditional Game of Thrones release timing. Of course, in two full years, it will take October 2024, but I don’t think anyone wants that.

It’s becoming increasingly common to have long stretches between seasons, especially for big TV shows. This was apparently interrupted by the pandemic, delaying literally all productions, but it’s still happening afterward and seems to have become the new normal for many productions. And I suspect it may be due to the backlog of VFX studio work currently plaguing Hollywood.

That’s right, House of the Dragons Season 2 will have to wait. Production and filming are set to begin early next year.

Update (10/31): Some New Information About What to Expect in Season 2, According to Showrunners (via) deadline):

“We’ll see the spectacle, but we have to understand the intricacies of these people before they go to war. It hits the rhythm it came to, but because we put the piece in, it’s earned and the viewer will feel the tragedy.”

Condal also talked about how season 1 kept leaping forward over time.

“As a reward to our amazing viewers for always following Jump and Recast, they’re done… from now on we’ll tell the story in real time.”

It was certainly an adjustment to replace the two young lead actresses with new versions midway through the season. Know that we haven’t jumped further decades into the future that would require us to switch cast members again, and we’ve gone through a myriad of different Velaryons of hers even at this point.

Yes, Season 2 will last a while, but it should be a little more consistent than Season 1.
