Hollywood actor and director Sean Peng is in Ukraine to shoot a documentary about the Russian invasion, according to the Kiev and Hollywood editions Variety. Photographs released by Ukraine’s press service on Thursday show the Oscar winner attending a media briefing at the president’s office in Kyiv when the Russian military invaded the country.
“The director came to Kyiv specifically to record all the events taking place in Ukraine and to tell the world the truth about Russia’s invasion of our country,” the president’s translation said on his Facebook page. “Sean Peng is one of those who support Ukraine in Ukraine today. Our country is grateful to him for such a show of courage and honesty.” It says Peng, who has become a prominent participant in the campaign on humanitarian and political issues, has spoken to Ukrainian politicians and military figures, as well as journalists.
Peng previously traveled to Ukraine in November to meet with the military in preparation for the documentary, the statement added. “Sean Peng is showing courage that many others, especially Western politicians, lack,” the statement said. “The more such people, true friends of Ukraine, who support the struggle for freedom, the sooner it will be possible to stop the massive offensive against Russia.” Industry publication Variety reported that Penn’s documentary was intended for Vice Studios in conjunction with Vice World News and Endeavor Content. Penn representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
